I really don’t like the dual citizenship they are demanding. The government shouldn’t provide them the citizenship of Nepal. If they are saying we are Nepali and love our country, then why did they leave this country? What is their contribution and role for the development of our country?

Hey ktmdude, You just gotta see India, how much NRI has contributed to India. Most of the Nepalese living abroad has contributed many ways, like some invested in projects, sent money back home by keeping nepal's much needed forex, sponsoring many ways, sending money when disater takes place and many ways.... I think people in nepalnews were looking at cons side and not the pros side. In my point of view Nepal govt should give NRN status to nepalese living abroad cause they don't loose anything but only gain on many ways.

I agree with Khorsani, I think Nepal Will benefit with the duel Citizenships. Although I don't know how the rules are going to be, I hope that the duel citizenship should be only given to Nepali born, and their both parents should be Nepali, In other words pure Nepali blood. I know this can be seen as a discriminating way and point of discussion but this is my personal view. With a duel Citizenship, Nepali living aboard, can invest or start a new business in Nepal, this possibility will be open and used. After all Living abort I have realized from my self and those Nepali I have meet that their Heart truly lays back home, and Miss Nepal every day. One can criticize and say why did you or they left home then, well answer to this question you and I both know, and some people have many other different reasons, This I guess is also personal. I am also sure if the political situation in Nepal is to improve, and the society function better then more then half of Nepali living aboard will return back home.

Just take small example... Why do Nepalese singer's go to foreign countries to perform, beacuse back home in Nepal economy is so bad it's so hard for these artist to survive. So they come here and perform and they make good money. Pls. don't forget that 98% of audience are nepalese. In my point of view nepalese living abroad has helped many ways. If these singer's had to perform back home, it's very hard for them to survive. As you are aware that Tourism, garment and carpet are doing very bad at present. Only surviving business nepal is is making at prsent is foreign remittance that is sent by nepalese working abroad. Still some people back home don't support NRN, I don't know why !!!!!!!

IF it was not for NRN sending remittances back home in alst 10 years Nepali economy would have collapsed already. This fact ahs been acknowledged by everyone back home. And what so much hue and cry for giving dual citizenship many countries do so. And i jsut want to ask ppl who oppose it...do you like NRN who stay abroad and help nepali economy or ppl who stay in Nepal, wear nepali poshak everyday( Like girija, madhav K, and many more) and take earn their income under the table and suck our economy dry.

Question is how much permanent migrant send money back home and how much temporary migrants? If you look into stat most of the foreign remittances are comming from middle easten countries and India (temporary migrants who will eventually to go back home) and least from countries like USA and UK (where people are seeking permanent migration). Not to forget migration to USA and UK is the permanent brain drain for the country. Also just imagine how much money has been invested in creating these man power back in home (just calculate the cost of education alone to become professional like doctors and engineers). I agree most of the time its individual's parents money unless they have got scholarships, but still it is comming out from national economy. And yet the people who are advocating for this dual citizenships are these permanet migrants looking to settle down is USA and UK. Just an alternative thought...

Well.....seeing what India has benefited giving NRI a dual citizen.....I hope our government will take a very positive step in order to take the advantage of this issue! It is good giving NRN a dual citizen in many aspects of being Nepali and for our country Nepal...! Our government should not be looking at the short-term benefit but long term not only in this issue but also in other on going issue too.

i think Dual nationality is the realistitc and natural option. In today's global village, national boundaries are getting blurred. Having a citizenship of a country simply makes working/living/doing business with that country easier. If Nepal governement allows dual citizenship, it will be a win-win situation. Nepal will benefit from the resources of the NRN and the NRN will find it easier to retain a relationship, business or otherwise, with the country. I think it is already late. Every developed countries enjoy dual citizenship. India, Bangladesh and Pakistan have also started giving the dual citizenships.

For dual citizenship. Nepali government must allow dual citizenship to those who are authentic Nepalese but later become citizenship in other country, too. But there must be vary strict constitution and law/order about it. Person whoever want to apply dual citizenship those person must be proved that they do not have any crimes and corruption from his or her two families generation. Criminal and corrupted people must be punished Not give reward or Award. That should be the key.

I might be against you guys on this thread but the concept to me is really absurd. One can't serve two masters. One can't have two wives (unless you are muslims). One can't play for two sporting teams at the same time. And one can't be loyal to two countries at once. One has to commit becoming a citizen fully, or not at all. It's really an insult to the country that the person has become a naturalized citizen of. It's a betrayal of trust.

This is a bad idea to give dual citizenship. However, one provision could be made for those who were born in Nepal, but later took up foriegn citizenship. That would be to allow them to take Nepali citizenship if they want but they must give up foreign citizenship and then pay some amount to Nepal govt, say about 10 lakhs, or 5 Lakhs should be also OK.

or there are some solutions or alternatives to Dual cititzenship. Why don't Nepal government tries to give permanent resident status to these peoples where they can invest, save their wealths ( Purkhellee Sampatis) and also make proud that they are still Nepalese. PR Status will give them several advantages such as they don't have to apply for visas, they can invest in several sectors as Nepali Resident status etc. Only thing they are not allowed is to vote. That's all. My 2 cents.

What kind of wealth (Purkheulee Sampatis) do these corrupted and criminal Nepalese have? Those national wealth are belonging to country mother land Nepal. They robbed and looted national wealth and properties while these corrupted criminals were working in Nepali Government Offices. Nepal must seize these illegal properties.

I think the biggest fear for giving out dual citizenship is to these corrupt leaders who believe their future would be bleak in doing so. My question to those six people interviewed would be 'what is your contribution to Nepal?' If you take any one NRN at random and ask how much they've contibuted to Nepal in terms of financial remittance or just expertise in their field or adivice they've given to their relatives and quatifiy it over a period of a year, it will be more than what these six bozos will ever contribute to Nepal in their lifetime. One does not have to live in Nepal to help Nepal. To the person who compares having dual citizenship to having two wives, wake up and smell the coffee or tea or whatever the heck you drink or smoke! Personally I know I'm making a difference in Nepal by providing employment to people in Nepal, without a Nepalese citizenship. If they recognize my status that's great. But I'll always be a proud Canadian, who loves his birthplace/motherland Nepal. No one can take that away from me.
