well, let me share sth that might be interesting to most of you. i am not sure how things go at nepali gatherings in your states and cities, but over here at my place, its pretty much monotonous and predictable. 1) Corona 2) Cards 3) Politics i don't go to nepali parties often. its not that i don't like them..but i feel suffocated at times. people gather....men go for cards....women go for their feminine stuffs ( i have very little clue about it :P)....then drinking and stuffs..and finally politics... with more corona gone from freeze, more people participate in politics... more the consumption, louder the noise. last week, i went to one of those parties. there was this guy, quiet and tranquil sitting on a counch in the corner until he was done with two coronas. then he stood up and went: "nepal has no future!" "all these fu--ing politicians should be shot in tundikhel" blah blah.. someone retaliated..and then there was a verbal commotion for a while. later on i came to realize that the dude was a DV winner...hehe. then political debate took on the party for another 2 good hours.... i felt so fuc--ked up, runied my friday night completely...but then this is how we are haina--typical nepali? ki haina? how does it go in your place? let me clarify. i did NOT mean to emanate hatred against DV winners from this thread. i simply wanted to put forth my experiences on nepali gatherings. irrespective of the education, experiences and nature of the participants, i have found that political discussions filled with "my point is the most apt one" notion take over the parties one way or the other. like chatmandude, i have NOTHING against DV lottery winners. moreover, the purpose behind the inception of the lottery system was to fill up the mid and lower level manpower requirement for uncle sam... what you mean mid and lower level man power for uncle sam. what do you do for living dude. then I will clearify you what I do for living, what company I wirk for and what's my position is and sajha badi will make a decission here. I understand what you trying to say but there are 1000's of nepalese who are DV winners and are doing great as well. So Don't be so hater for DV winner and don't be a jealous. Peace

well, that's how DV thing came into picture as far as i know. i am NOT generalizing here. please try to understand me. my uncle is a PhD in environmental engineering and he has got a DV for himself. another acquaintaince of mine who works as a garden keeper in my house won a DV too. Both of them are coming here on the same date. i am very excited for both of them. i reiterate, i have nothing against DV winners. LooTe

hahahaha miky... you did not get me, did you? where did i say anything against DV winners? the very first post of mine was just what i saw and felt about nepali gatherings in general.... of course a typical nepali gathering has people from different age, interests, education and so on. Be it DV winner or a Phd student or both, all are parts of it. and i don't need no guts to tell anything to the DV winners in person coz i have NOTHING AGAINST THEM. LooTe

Loote, You said you rarely go to nepali gatherings...so you cannot write about one, and generalize that all the gatherings are like that. I think it depends upon the kind of crowd the party has. For example, is it family oriented gathering? Is it a gathering of a bunch of youngsters? or is it budha haru ko gathering? :P ...anyways, manchhey haru alik drunk bhayey pachie matra frustration niskiney hola ni tah...personally, i've never been to a nepali gathering ( family- or peers) where politics has been the ruling topic of conversation. Ali ali passing by topic chai bhayeko chha once in a while. ( i am waiting for sajha user ko criticizing words now...hahaha)

BC, hahaha BC six pack corona :P....is enough to invite a brawl haina? :P....BTW, when did you last kicked an ass of a nepali? yesterday, or today? what time? hehehe....j/k i know what you're saying...i did not mean to hurt anyone in person....i wanted to project a scenario of a gathering of our community. i AM a part of it...and i don't feel ashamed at pointing out my OWN drawbacks or of my community. BB, yes you are right....i have very few sample data for analysis...but i have talked with friends from many states....their opinions do tend to resonate with mine..that is why i dared to generalize...i know bachelors parties, prom nights, friends re-union have different attributes which may not be into the coterie of our nepali gatherings--"typical ones"... and let me clarify...i am not against political debates. i do indulge myself in such...however, i believe in listening to views from different people and analyse and juxtapose mine with theirs..i think that is the most democratic way..but few parties that i have attended had me in shock, dismay and disbelief. even people who claim and actually DO have Phds and higher degrees fail to comprehend a simple democratic procedure for a healthy debate. i don't know whether its them or CORONA speaking. LooTe P.S. kundalay, i work in a lab and i go for experiments which take time to generate results...so that make me wait and hence give me time to peek at sajha. i guess it is heaven in that respect--"DOG"S WORLD" hehe

I was not being so general when i said about T-MOBAIL...may be you speak better than me...wtf...dude i dont care..i was just trying to refer that very guy who had big guffs to boast....I am a very patriotic person who just cant resist people talk whatever they want provided they have few thousand dollars...In this context i sometimes make fun of these persons in a very ill-mannered way and I do feel good about it... Anyone has problem with it??????

Jamming is the best fun one can have in Nepali get-together. Kathmandu crowd, I am afraid, don't know how to do it. I love you guys, but ya'll are just not musically oriented. Sorry, no disrespect. But from my limited experience, that's just how it is. Now if the Poorbelis are around, and probably even some Pokharelis... now you are talking. Add HK returns or Darjeelingeys into the mix, we can have one heckuva Nepali jam session. Nakkali Kanchi-ko khubai ramro lajauney bani Hami-ma thita-haru-ko na-ramro jiskauney bani
