I'm in a big mess. My OPT expires Jan 31st 2007, but i (well, my company) has not yet filed for H1-B. I just came to know today that the quota for h1-b has expired! Next date to apply for h1-b is April 2007 but by that time i'll be out of status. The only thing I could comeup to remain in status is to go back to scool and do my masters. Is there anything else I could do ? Please help!!

Another option might be staying/applying in visitor status B1/B2 but won' t be allowed to work legally. Please, do some search on this option as well.

Problem101, check the following USCIS website for the latest H1B information. Regular H1B 65,000 (58200+6800) visa is done as of June 01, 2006. But there is still plenty H1B visas availiabe for a person who holds advanced degree from the US Universities. Advanced degree means US Master degree or higher. If you have earned MS degree from the US University, you will still have few months to apply for H1B. Good luck. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/tempbenefits/cap.htm

Dude, the information I posted was worthless for you because I did not notice you have BS/BA degree. Still, I would suggest you pursuing Master degree is the best option. But here is plan B option if you want to give a shot. Ask your trusted lawyer whether you could apply for PERM Labor certification from your current job. If you can get PERM Labor certification before Jan 31st 2007 and expect the waiting time for Employment Based 3rd Categories become available by March 31st 2007, you will be able to apply to adjustment of status to Permanent Residence. But the main issues are PERM Labor Certification and disappearing of EB 3rd Categories visa waiting time. My speculation is that some type of compromise immigration bill would be brought by conference committee (that includes 14 senate members + unknown numbers of HoR) and would pass the both senate and HoR before November election. If compromise immigration bill with whether earned citizenship option or without citizenship option (S 2611 + H.R 4437 = compromise bill) becomes law, the waiting times for Employment Based Categories will virtually disappear. If my speculation turns to the fact, plan B option will perfectly work for you. Good luck.
