Do you use two feet or one (for automatic car)? I've heard many debates
about which is safer, and I'm just curious as to what people here
think. (I personally prefer to use two feet.)

I was habituated to use manual cars in Nepal. So, here also for the automatic cars, my left foot never goes to brake. So I use only 1 foot for automatic cars.

What?? people use 2 feet for automatic? That's news to me... lol... and what the hell is it suppose to mean that is is safer? As someone said above you never hit the brake and accelerator at the same time so I wouldn't know why someone would use 2 feet..

Oviously, you use same foot for brake and accelator, right foot. The main reason is brake and accelator should not press at same time. The output is zero.It should be press simultanously.

I know someone, who  uses both foot. what i think is those who learned driving from nepal and drove few weeks those poeple use one leg (because of manual shift). And those who learn here generally use both legs for brake and accelator.

Sometimes when you are day dreaming or not paying enough attention to the traffic, two feet driving is risking lives. Suppose you see a child come in front of your car suddenly, you can not tell you will not press accelerator instead of brakes.
I have a two feet user fren who pressed his accelerator pedal hard instead of brakes and collided to the apartment gate.

Acceleration (gas) and brakes are two opposite process while
operating a vehicle. Acceleration is done to increase speed and brake to
decrease the speed of a vehicle. You either need to increase or decrease the speed
of your vehicle at a time.

When you press gas, you are burning fuel and increasing your
speed. As you apply brakes, the momentum you’ve gained by the fuel is
decreased. Hence the lesser you apply brakes, the lesser you’ll spend on fuel.

When you use both feet for gas and brakes, you will be
pressing both feet at the same time unknowingly (even a small dab on the pedal
will activate it), which will

  1. Deteriorate your transmission.
  2. Put the brake lights on, even when you are accelerating, putting the vehicle
behind you and yourself at risk.
  3. Make you spend more money on gas.
  4. They are opposites. They don’t go together.
  5. Put you to high risk, when you need to apply sudden brakes. You tend to press
    both your feet.
  6. Wear out your brakes, eventually leading to break fluid leakage and break fails.

Using two feet is never recommended. Even in manual transmission, you use ONLY ONE foot for Brake and accelerator (gas). You use other foot for clutch during gear shifts.

If you’ve learned driving yourself or your instructor didn’t pay much attention to how many feet you were using, you may have gotten yourself into a dangerous practice; even though you’ve mastered driving using two feet for brake and accelerator.

My two cents.

Couldn't agree more with 11th dimension. Automatic cars were meant to be driven by using only one(right) foot. Using both legs sounds just funny. As most of the guys have pointed out, I need not reiterate the fact that driving an automatic car with both feet is like playing chess with both hands simultaneously.

I use two feet.
One to control Accelerator OR (not and) Break , another to kick the guy who started this stupid thread. Even if you do use two, who the f cares??

U r supposed to use only one foot for gas and brake pedals...many people already gave their opinion on this...so, I am gonna make my point to..just look underneath ur steering wheel u will see three pedals(four on manual) one is called DEAD PEDAL..so that u can rest ur left foot on it and drive with ONLY right foot...

I use right foot only, right hand for steering and left hand for my transmission (dick).

One foot of course, leave your left foot at the resting pedal at all times (saves you big time)

I saw one episode of Mr. Bean where he put brick in the acclerator while he was putting pants inside his car. That shows you can anything you like.

I don't see any harm in using two feet as long as you are careful not to hit the brakes and the gas pedal at the same time.
But I bet you the engineer who designed the automatic car wanted people to use ONE feet.
Why? If he/she wanted people to use two feet, then the brakes would be way on the left and not close to the gas pedal as it is. Notice why there is only a small gap between the brakes and gas pedal.
Why do it the hard way when you can just use one feet?
And people who are giving the reason 'Oh I used to drive a manual' for using two feet are just stupid. You only use the left feet for clutch, dumbass!

Never! use both your feet, for controlling the acceleration and braking. In most sudden situations, you are more than likely to hit both the brakes and the accelerator - and we all know, where that leads to. Be safe on the road.. Energy can be fun, but energy can also have severe consequences ;).
