I will be graduating in this may, so I am applying for some jobs.
In one of the website they are asking about:
US Work Authorization: and I was confused on which one to choose of the following :

I require sponsorship to work in this country or
I am authorized to work in this company for any employer

As, I will be in OPT first time which option should I select I guess its probably the first one but I were not sure!
Hope I would get the answer from you guys ! thanks !

Select "I am authorized to work in this company for any employer" if you want to get calls from employers.

you should select the second one "I am authorized to work in this company for any employer". It's what I chose.

Your option is,

I require sponsorship to work in this country.

-- Since opt is for only one year, you need sponsorship later on for H1 (work authorization). The option "I am authorized to work in this company for any employer" is for US citizens, residents or one with permanent work permits.--

In OPT, you are in fact authorized to work for any employer.
Only requirement is that the work should be related to your degree.

You DO NOT need sponsorship.

Kush,
don't mislead people by saying you do not need sponsorship.
Country_boy: you need sponsorship to work. however choose 1st option so that the employer would consider you for the position and increasing a chance of getting an interview call because as soon as you say you require sponsorship, many companies would not even consider you. Then you can raise the issue of sponsorship. If they like you after interview, they may change their mind.

country_boy-- Pretty much everyone here is right. This is a matter of how the question is worded versus what the question really is trying to ask. You could argue that on OPT you are authorized to work for any company as long as the work is related to your field of studies. So you should be able to chose "I am authorized to work  for any employer". However, that's not the intent behind the question. The intent is to know whether you are a citizen or a legal permanent resident or not (When I was in your situation I called some of the companies and asked them how I should answer the question. After talking to 4-5 HR people I came to know what the intent behind the question is). You should chose "I require sponsorship to work in this country" because the fact is that after that one year you will require sponsorship. However, like someone said above, if you do that you might not get any interviews at all. My response is based on my personal experience. I am not a expert on this matter.  Having said that, if you decide to choose the 1st option I would strongly advise you to contact the HR department and let them know that you are legally authorized to work for any employer for the next one year. Obviously, if the HR person doesn't understand what you are talking about they might just ignore your application and move unto an America (especially in this economy).

For now select option B. In an interview if you are asked about if you need sponsorship to work then tell them "I am authorized to work for ...... (your opt duration) and then I may require sponsorship to continue". This is the best way and increases your probability of being hired. You can always raise the issue of H1B sponsorship once you are hired and after working for several months.
