Hi DC CC,

thanks for the info..I believe he does both computer and free hand but is particularly interested in digital architecture...Can you tell me how tough is the job market for this field in US?did u complete your masters here in US? if u know universities that he can look into? It seems like many universities do not have architect engineering.

Yeah i did master's from US. I know nepali people are very reluctant to do anything on freehand, producing computer graphics appleals them a lot. To get the job,  if you have connection you may find it. If not you will have to work hard to be the lucky one. In entry level job, you will only get to do drafting and nothing more, only lucky will get to chance to soak their hand with design.-like me!

About university, it depends on your priority, money, where do you want to live and work, your test score, your professional experience and so on. I guess life is cheaper in Texas and they have good architectural school too. But it is upto you. where do you want to be, Kiran44 where do you live? It looks like it is you not your family member..boy i can sense that from your promt answer. as i said, whereever you go, you will get exposed to digital architecture... GUD LUCK

thanks for the reply. We're trying to collect as much information as we can so that we can make the best decision..We have heard it is very hard to study MS in architecture..is it true? Also we heard its very difficult to get good paying job in this field (starting around $25000)..so we are torn between Australia and US..You being already through it, can you suggest.

Also Is there any good colleges around New Hampshire, Massachusetts or in Virginia?

In MA- there are many, HARVARD, MIT.

In virginia, I guess university of virginia would be good.

Architecture is always tough, you will have to skip food, sleep as you did in your bachelor. Plus here you have to maintain the deadline or be dead! You can not late submitt as you often do in Nepal. About job prospect, architecture is not well paying job and if you get job, you will get $30k +, but again if you deduct the tax and expenses, it comes around nepali Rs 20 k/per month. So is it worth coming here, think about it. If you want to just study and go back, for the architect who has good caliber that would be better choice. If you get stuck here, you will be lost! But once you come here, unless you have strong reason to go back you would probably want to stay some years...but it is upto you. What do you want!

I feel sorry to all those architects, unfortunately it is not well paying job unless you are big shot! applies everywhere.  So are you in Australia now??

Thanks for your valuable comments. I'm in US and have already got masters..so i know we all struggle to meet deadlines. From your post, I think the situation for architect engineer seems little grim..but if you have talent then you can succeed (like you).

If anyone else has any comments or suggestion, please feel free pitch in.

whatsup? i'm currently a 2nd year, soon to be a 3rd year, in a 5 year bachelor of architecture program. i have to say that i have loved architecture since i was a little kid and still do. even if i have to go through hell, which currently i'm going through. i have a mid review due this thursday, don't really have a design so i guess i will be pulling quite a few allnighters?!

bored: architecture describes time and without it, we wouldn't be able to sense time. everything you see around you is architecture even if its bad or good, mostly bad. architecture is shelter, its nature, its about everything that this life has to offer. last but not least, architects need dedication if they want to make a difference and of course connection. and its alright if we don't make a lot of money because we love what we do. in a world where everything has been discovered, architecture is a home to new discovery, where each design leads to another new design. plus, you learn as you go. lovely, isn't it?

by the way, i want my thesis project to be in nepal. so during the summer of 2010, i'm planning to live and work in nepal at a firm. therefore, if i need a job, can you guys help me??? :D

Hey Shakeen!! Where are you doing your architucture? I'm also interested in this subject. I'd love to join the architucture school, but I'm afraid that it will cost a lot of money. How much are you paying for your tution? If its too high, can you suggest me any other school which offers architucture in affordable tution?

Any way, are those models made by you? Great job man!!!! keep it up.

i'm currently enrolled in woodbury university in los angeles area. its a small college, around 1500 students, mostly design major. tuition currently is 26k :-S. lets not even talk about material cost!!! projects are expensive!!! i have spend around 500 bucks for a project. anyways, this college is not that technical, its more conceptual and crazy stuff and the instructors push you toward it. i like it!

whats your location??? in los angeles there is only one public college, which is cal poly pomona that offers 5 years in bachelor. tuition should be around 10k. but the thing is, its hard to get in and i heard that they have a pretty sh(tty program. and other colleges that offer b.arch is USC and SCI-ARC, those two colleges are really expesive 30k+...

yes those models are made by me, i have others too but don't have the pictures because my hard drive fryed. also, you can't work if you are doing architecture. ITS TOO MUCH WORK!

architecture is a major that will open other doors for you as well! you can be a director, fashion designer, lawyer, ceo, product designer, and etc. its an awesome major but only meant for people who wants to do it. if you're really up for it then let me know, i can tell you everything in detail. =D....

not every college has architecture so that creates a problem. if you want to attend an architecture school then you should focus on what you want to learn because each school has its weakness and its strength. i would recommend you going to a college around big city because most of our projects are based within the city except for the degree project. as for the expense, i'm getting financial aid, loans, and parents. i don't worry much because you have to lose something to gain something, right? what's your location??? what are your interests in architecture? by the way, architecture is not engineering, we do need to learn the basic but its not even close to engineering. in fact, architects are the leaders in the construction process. we do lot of sh(t than engineers!!! its not  yes or no, ITS ALWAYS YES! thats is why we are architects + lawyers + businessman + etc.......

b.arch=5 year undergrad degree. + 3 years of work = 8 years then you qualify to take the architect license exam. pretty long and expensive...
