Feels like it has been just few months since I left T I A and landed in J F K but its already time for me to graduate. As my graduation is approaching,I am thinking about the visit of my parents. They wanna come here for my graduation.Infact,I want them to be a part of my graduation but I think I m not ready for it. Since I m still in school,I donn have  good job except the manual ones and I m still living in my dorm.Let me put this way,I am still struggling to manage my expenses and I totally rely on my summer earnings and manual wages. So,at this point I m making my mind to request my parents to apply for the visa  for the graduation but postpone their visit for later.I donn know if thats possible or not.Is it possible to come to US after a year of getting visa?????Will they face any kind of problems???

I am sorry if it sounds like a stupid question to some of u but I really want to bring my parents for a while, spend quality time with them and take them to different places. But my present condition wont allow me to do any of those things.I donn want my parents to see all these craps i m goin through.

There shouldn't be any problem with B1/B2 Visa (if valid). I know my friend's mom travelling US after 1 year of getting B1/B2 visa (about 10 months after the purposed date of visit), Visa was valid for 5 years.......She came US this August. But the purpose of visit wasn't attending graduation ceremony (while visa application).

syd_acid, i'm contemplating on having my parents come over for graduation too. i'll be broke when they come. i need @least 5-6 months after graduation to stay afloat financially. it's killin me....if i'm better off taking my time or shud i invite them now.
it would b nice if the visa worked even after the intention of visit. anyone has more to share on this??

Guys don’t call your parents at your graduation if you don’t have good financial backing. I invited my parents for my graduation and got them the visa but they came after 10 months. Also after graduation you will looking for Jobs I don’t think there is time taking your parents for US tour.

Guys,it will not matter after however long you travel to the US after getting the visa as long as the visais valid. I have seen people travel to the US after nearly 4 years of getting their 5-year multiple entryvisa without problem. I have also seen people travel to the US more than a year after getting the visa without any problem. So, there should not be a problem. People change plans all the time and visiting US is is not a minor plan that it can be made easily. Therefore, authorities do understand that as well.No worries to you guys and travelling more than a year later of getting the B1/B2 is not a prob.Good Luck for your graduation and all the best finding a good job!

cyberdude and happyface thank you much for sharing. and thanks for the luck happyface. will need lots of it for upcoming days.
i'm leaning much towards getting the visa now and having them come later though. how abt you syd_acid? i know i'll have to move once i graduate. to another state for sure. i wouldn't even know my fate, it scares me to think if i fail to take care of my parents. graduation will certainly not be as exciting without them but..oh life!!
anyways g'luck for the hunting season.job hunting ni pheri
