Has anybody applied for US citizenship ? My dad who is 78 years old is thinking to apply this month.
Will he need birth certificate and will he have to take the American history test?
Can you please share your experiences?

civic test u need to make 6 correct answer of asked 10 questions out of 100 questions pool. But this is at the end of the process (before naturalization ). For your father as he is above 58 he is exempt from civic test. U just need green to apply. Every thing is online and pretty easy.

Thanks paradox, i was also looking for that info for my mom. May i ask where did you see that info? I could only find 65/20 exemption but nowhere wjere it says they wxempt from civic test totally.
From uscis website: The Immigration and Nationality Act provides for special consideration of the civics test for applicants who, at the time of filing their Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, are over 65 years old and have been a permanent resident for at least 20 years. These applicants qualify to take the civics test in the language of their choice. They are also given special consideration as they are only required to study 20 of the 100 civics test questions for the naturalization test.

People with these smart comments are disgusting. Do you even know what someone is going through? I know some parents of people who are living in the US who do not have anyone in Nepal and they are suffering very bad due to sickness. Noone is able to take them to doctor or provide any help. So please do not give dumb answers. If you cannot help then STFU.

Sorry i am confused myself now about excemption. May be it is enlglish test exemption which is actually easier than civic test. But civic test is pretty easy if u understand little bit of spoken english and i dont think it will be probrlem. I had applied at he end of march, called for interview in oct 16, naturalization on dec 6 and now i got my passport on jan 6 2024 so roughly 10 months.

N400 process time is relatively prompt at the moment specially if new Biometrics is not needed and they use one from the existing file. I know someone who filed around end of July and got interview date with in a month and again naturalization date scheduled with in 30 days. So, total processing time 2 month.
