Actually I didn't get this story....could anybody explain this for me ? KOL Report KATHMANDU, Sept 30 - A Nepali woman on Friday succeeded in entering her name in the Guinness Book of World Records. Pratistha Amatya Bista,29, got her name entered in the Guinness Book of World Records after she succeeded in recollecting the names of 75 objects within six seconds, according to the state-owned Nepal Television. The previous record was held by a British national for recollecting 55 objects. Amatya has completed her bachelor's degree in Agriculture from Rampur Agricultral Campus, Chitwan. (hb)

Yeah same from me, but six secs-75 objects (no doubt it is in the Guniess records), she was a smart lady, I had belief that she would make it big..but Guniess book....never thought about that. As an elder brother like to her, I am proud of her achievements.

i think they mean without pausing more than 6 secs, so like you have to name the words right away and not pause an hour to remember the next object thats just my guess..it makes more sense cause u cant even say 4 objects name in 6 secs (???)

Or can it be like this: they put 75 objects in front of you and give you only six seconds to look at them and memorize.

Yeah, the problem with our journalism is that they don't report the main important thing. Inded it's a great news for all Nepalese poeple to have someone to be entered in Guiness record book. But our poor journalism failed to elaborate this news... they didn't give details on what type of record, what was the feat of this challenge.. and how the objects were produced/presented in front of her, and under what sets of rule she has to recall thos eobjects.... Just they said her name was entered for remember 75 objects in 6 secs.. that's impossible. In one second she has to write? pronounce? at least 12 objects. Dude even if a human being counts 1,2,3..... 11, 12, 1 second is not enough!! Even if he/she counts those 12 numbers probably no one will understand it!!!!!!! Therefore, friends, please post here what exactly are the rules of that feat/challenge. Let's make the news complete!!! Congrats to Pratistha!!

Congratulations to Pratistha!! ******* I have always been fascinated by how memory works or does not work. Is there difference between how we remember faces versus how we remember numbers? And so on and on. Here's an ironic story of a world class memory-champion. - http://www.s-t.com/daily/02-99/02-24-99/b04li047.htm If anyone's interested in getting an excellent, readable and intelligent overview of the latest research on memory, this is a good book to read (highly recommended): "How the Mind Forgets and Remembers" by Daniel Schacter Enjoy, oohi ashu

I am more leaning towards Gautam B.'s guessing... yeah it could be that only 6 secs were given to memorize 75 random objects... Then later she recollects all those objects in specified time duration... but what could be that duration???

I re-read the news item again, and unless I missed something, I now find it (blame my weak memory!) rather odd that: - state-owned Nepal TV made the grand declaration about this achievement, and - there is NO record of this feat on - http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/ as of now. Perhaps NTV is a better authority on matters of this kind than The Guinness folks! Who knows!! [Seriously, how long does it take to Guinness to update their records on their site?] The "previous" British guy -- according to the Guinness site -- did this: "Most Cards Memorized British mindbender Dominic O'Brien memorized on a single sighting a random sequence of 54 separate packs of cards all shuffled together (2,808 playing cards) at the basement bar of Simpson's-In-The-Strand, London, UK, on May 1, 2002. It took Dominic 11 hours 42 minutes to memorize the 54 packs, and reciting them in the exact sequence took 3 hours 30 minutes. Guinness World Record rules allow only 0.5% margin of error (so no more than 14 errors), and memory-man Dominic completed the record with just eight errors ? four mistakes and four prompted corrections." **** oohi ashu

Paakhey. Maybe you don't even have the capability to read these simple lines: "recollecting the names of 75 objects within six seconds" which means that you have to say (or write) to someone what objects you recall. Now how the fuk can someone say 75 words in 6 seconds ???. Your logic is fuked up just like KOL news.. so STFU and take a Reading 101 class. Stupid pos. Some other people have put forth sensible arguments and I kinda agree with them.

apparently this is how it works: you are told 100 words. you must then recite as much of those 100 words as possible. however the trick is that you cannot pause for more than 6 seconds, this is because a person can take forever and then finaly come up with the list!

Fountaindew, Read this f**king line first. "How can one recollect 75 objects within 6 seconds? That's bullshit. Only computers can do that. Maybe 6 minutes would make more sense. " This is what you said not me. I never said anything about whether she could say or not. What the f**k is "bullshit" to you? Well.....cuz your brain is not good enough to understand the simple news, and that's why you said its bullshit and blah...blah..... F**k off.....

This happened in April last year. Here is how it got to work in her dad's words: " ---- Pratistha has set a new Guinness Record for memorizing random objects in her attempt made today at Novel Academy, Kathmandu, Nepal. She memorized 75 objects and reproduced them both in serial and random order in front of a huge crowd inside the academy. She broke the current Guinness Record of Adel Anwar of London, UK, who memorized and then recalled 55 random items in the order that they were read to him. -----"

Check this out.. http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/fullstory.asp?filename=aEUata0sjqzpda4Ra3sa.axamal&folder=aEUaiFaoaraiaaal&Name=Editorial&dtSiteDate=20041118&sImageFileName= LETTERS LETTERS Child prodigy indeed Sagun Khatri successfully memorised the names of 100 objects in a random manner in the presence of a plethora of observers and is now vying for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. By doing so, he bettered Pratistha Amatya Bista?s existing domestic record, who had memorised 75 items, which in turn, was better than the existing record of 56 in the Guinness Records. Hats off to this young man that he could achieve so much at such a tender age. He was rightly feted as the Child of the Year and will receive the Veer Ganeshman Singh Bal Prativa Puraskar. Such emerging talents need to be supported by the State, including forwarding the papers necessary to enlist him in the Guinness. Three cheers to you, Sagun! Do keep up the good work. Sajan Subedi, Lalitpur

And this:: http://www.gorkhapatra.org.np/pageloader.php?file=2005/01/27/topstories/main12 13-year boy exhibits stunning memory feat By Kadambini Sharma , KATHMANDU, Jan. 26: Thirteen-year-old Kshitiz Lohani surprised everyone by demonstrating his memory power amid journalists, scientists, students and general public. He recited the name of 125 objects, which were told to him by the audiences. He was even able to repeat all the words along with their serial numbers. He could even tell the position of the word in the serial numbers well as how many time it was repeated in the list. He missed only once. The Class 8 student of Om Vidhya Mandir of Lokanthali said he wanted to be in the Guinness Books of World Records. According to him, he was able to relate those words by the technique of imagination, association and reputation, which makes the words memorable. He says he was able to remember those words with the help of landmark learning system, which was thought to him in Maharshi Vedic Science and Technology Institute. According to his trainer Madhav Prashad Aryal, Ksitij is only an example, everyone can remember the series of words by learning through the process of Transcendental Mediation. Aryal claimed even thousands of words could be remembered through this learning. The words can even be remembered years later, he said. He said the world record for children is only 57 words. Dayananda Bajracharya, vice chancellor of RONAST, congratulated Kshitiz and said his feat was worthy of a world record. This process should be researched and broadened and this learning technique could be in every field of people?s life, he said. Principal of the school Khadga Katuwal said that he is average in his class, but good in extra-curricular activities. He has also played in some television serials. Earlier, Pratistha Amatya and Sagun Khatri had also shown similar memory skill. They were shown the objects to memorize, but Lohani depended on his auditory sense to memorize the objects. Now who's bullshitting?? Nepal's media or me?

There is no record of it in the Guinness Site itself so I dont know if there is a grain of truth in what the nepali media has said.
