Bijukchhe claims India is searching for 'Lhendup Dorje' in Nepal A senior communist leader has accused India of attempting to do a 'Sikkim' on Nepal. Talking to Nepal FM on Tuesday morning, Bijukchhe also reiterated his oft-repeated claim that the 12-point deal was New Delhi's baby. Narayan Man Bijukchhe (File Photo) "India is searching for Lhendup Dorje here. They don't care if that Dorje is wearing red or white or black cloth. They are looking for appropriate character," claimed Narayan Man Bijukchhe, president of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP). The NWPP is a constituent of the eight-party alliance but it is not in the government. In 1975, the tiny Himalayan nation of Sikkim was merged into India and Dorje, who was the leader of Sikkim National Congress, had acted to facilitate the merger. On the issue of Maoist threat to quit the government and launch the agitation, Bijukchhe said that there is no point in compelling them to remain in the government if they don't want to. "Let them walk out of the government. Let them launch agitation. It would be good if they raise people's issues in the agitation. Otherwise, at present, there is not even an opposition to this government," Bijukchhe. He went on to ask the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML), too, to quit the government. "They have a good excuse. They can say that they quit the government since the Terai problem could not be resolved." "It is meaningless to stick to the government, claim to be communists and then do nothing to resolve country's problems," Bijukchhe said. nepalnews.com sd Sep 18 07

Kura ta thikai ho Bijukchhe ji ko, but what repercussions will it have on common people? More bandhs, road blocks, state of anarchy. This is not the solution to our problem and this is not what janta wants.

pdahal, you are insulting this great patriot by calling him newar instead of nepali. i'm sure bijukchhe would be the 1st person to point this out to you. nonetheless your sentiment is well received. take it ez!! i respect bijukchhe but for now india might be looking to make nepal into next bhutan by having official control over nepal's military and foreign policy. this can be done by turning nepal into a failed state internationally and by turning nepalis against each other. sick and tired by these killings, terrors, and failed policies an average nepalis will give in to this indian ploy sooner or later. but i'm sure india won't mind if they get sikkim along the way while fishing for bhutan.

I fail to understand why India would bother merging Nepal into its border given there are so many problems festering everyday in the latter. This is just the disillusion lot of Nepalis harbor. Reality check: Brits chose not to invade Nepal because they could exercise their hegemony through their Rana puppets. If you can enjoy all the benefits without lifting a finger, why take burden onto yourself with all the negatives, eh? Same goes with India. With Nepal as sovereign, but under-influence, nation, India has much to gain and very little to loose. Think about it. With Nepal, India has a perfect fence against China, their significant adversary. Furthermore, Nepal has been under India's beck and call ever since Tribhuvan sought refuge within Nehru's coat. So, if India can do whatever it wants in Nepal anyway, why take additional responsibilities, risks and all the problems therein by making Nepal its another state? After all, why buy the cow if you can have all the milk for free? So don't worry. India does not want to invade Nepal. In a sense, that is already done, whether you know it or not, like it or not.

"Declaring republic will resolve 98.5% problems of the country, claims Pokharel" Leaders of Jana Morcha have backed the 22-point demands put forth by the Maoists but have said that they should not... http://www.nepalnews.com/archive/main.htm If this Pokharel guy is not stupid then either he does not know what issues Nepal is facing on economic front or he is kidding. "Declaring republic will resolve 98.5% problems of the country". Yeah, right! I wonder what does that other 1.5% cover.
