Hello all,
Someone just forwarded this email to me, thought to share with you all:
Ant & Grasshopper
The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.
Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold.
Modern Version
The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
Nepal Tv, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
YCL stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.
Nagrik Samaj goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.
Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticizes the Nepalese Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.
The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) .
Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Upendra Yadav call for 'Nepal Bandh'
Maobadi in immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers.
Baburam allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Nepali Buses aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath' .
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the 'Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.
Madav Nepal makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.
The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA
and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, it's home is confiscated by the YCL and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by Nepal Tv.
Prachand calls it 'A Triumph of Justice'.
YCL calls it 'Socialistic Justice'.
Maobadi calls it the 'Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden'
UN Secretary General invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.
Many years later...
The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar company in Silicon Valley.
100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in Nepal

The ants were really, really hardworking and they also used to go extra mile to get that extra "food"for winter. Whatever aid foriegn aids came for grasshopper, the ant used siphoned them off and also since ants were in most of the high position such as police, custom, government office, they used to ensure that they be presented foods for minor works. Over the years, the grasshoper got wiser and began to action in thier own hands and it's been reported some of the ants have migrated to places like US and Canada. One of my fellow Singapore bhanja , who had gone for a Nepali function, recalls how a conversation went between two ants: " Khai ke garnu Nepal huda ta hami ghus khanteu.. Nepali ma ayeko foreign aids pani hamrai goji ma jantyo...yo US / Canada ma pani Nepali ma justai nagarnu bhaneko saro parkey raicha." I don't like what is going on in Nepal but please don't generalise people. I know the threadstarter merely posted what is being passed around via email but to me it seems that whoever modified this ant and grasshoper story needs a conk on the head.

I got this long time ago!! And I think this is just a written out of frustration on being in a faraway country, or rather someone who is in higher rank of the society: mind you, those who are in Rukum and Rolpa, who had seen the real civil warfare and have no food to eat in the evening if they eat in the morning won't afford to go to US, let alone set up a multi billionaire company!! You are Juxtaposing wrong thing here; Don't juxtapose a completely irrelevant thing! In my eyes, real heroes are those who choose to stay back home and fight in whichever way they can!! I did run away from the country, but there are still thousands of ants who choose to stay back and survive! !My salute for those ants!!

i'd rather be the starving ant in Nepal than be the identity-less yet affluent one in US.
:) i'm workin in US btw... it sucks here.. i got what one would call an "american dream" but still wanna go back to Nepal... wat can i do, even my own parents aren't welcoming that idea... unless i choose to go back and not go home.. start all over in ktm ... i donno.. i'm confused

Over Generalization.
But not completely irrelevent. But grasshopper is grasshopper and ant is ant they will never complain about each other. Also grasshopper only eats grass it won't be interested in Ant-food.

Its more of a Symbolic Representation than Generalization.
